Open to unconventional and innovative methods, Derek approaches design from an artistic perspective at Formation PR + Brand. He is adept at creating compelling concepts that give form to abstract ideas, and engages in all aspects of Formation’s creative process — from discovery and strategy buildout to design execution. Derek holds an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University with work that has been exhibited and screened both nationally and internationally throughout his career. Prior to assuming the post of Creative Director, Derek spent a decade as an Art and Design Professor, three years as the Art Director for an art magazine, and two years as the Marketing Manager and Art Director for a global architecture firm, in addition to freelancing for numerous marketing and advertising agencies. Outside of work, Derek enjoys mountain biking, studying maps, cooking, spending time at home with family.
