Public Relations and Communications Intern

The Formation team is guided by a simple mission: Listen. Create. Empower. Impact.

We offer crisis management, public relations management and strategy, brand strategy and development, communications planning, web development and content strategy, and media planning and buying services. Our clients—many of whom have partnered with us for more than 10 years—work primarily within the fields of nonprofit and philanthropy, higher education and community colleges, healthcare, and regional and economic development. Together, we make a positive impact in the world and that makes us very happy.

We’re currently in search of a part-time Summer semester intern to join our team. As our PR Intern, we seek an individual with drive, creativity, initiative, and a can-do attitude. You’ll play a crucial role in supporting the public relations and social media efforts for our various clients, collaborating closely with our PR and marketing teams. Your responsibilities will involve assisting in promoting our clients brands and services across various social media platforms. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public relations, social media management, and agency marketing.

This internship is expected to be part-time and will require a commitment of approximately 15 hours per week. This role will work under the direction and assignment of our Senior Strategists, with close collaboration with our Communications Specialist.

As a PR + Communications intern, you will:

  • Supporting day-to-day media relations operations on various projects.
  • Assist in drafting press releases, media pitches, and other PR materials.
  • Conduct research on media outlets, journalists, and influencers relevant to our clients’ industries.
  • Help organize and maintain media contact lists and databases.
  • Monitor and track media coverage for our clients’ organizations.
  • Assist in creating engaging content for various digital platforms, including blog posts, articles, social media posts, and newsletters.
  • Conduct research to gather information and data for content creation.
  • Monitor social media channels and alert our team with regards to responses needed
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Junior or senior undergraduate students, as well as graduate students currently pursuing or recently completing degrees in communications, marketing, or public relations at a four-year university.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace.
  • Familiarity with various social media platforms and their management tools.
  • Basic knowledge of public relations principles and practices.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Prior experience with communications or PR internships is a plus.

Position Details:

This position is offered as a hybrid position or fully virtual. We anticipate that this position will require a commitment of around 15 hours per week and will be a paid internship. The specific schedule and duration of the internship can be discussed and agreed upon during the selection process. This is a paid internship with the hourly rate ranging from $15 to $20 per hour depending on your educational experience.
